Jo Sonja's Wood Stain Glazes

are available in four pre-mixed shades. These delightful glazes offer rich, transparent staining ability. Useful for staining all types of timber, they may also be used as decorative 'glazes' during the painting process.

DIRECTIONS:

When Staining Timber
Apply a coat of Jo Sonja's Clear Glaze Medium across the timber surface prior to staining. This step is optional however it will lightly seal the grain offering greater control of colour and working time.

Clear Glaze Medium is particularly useful to apply to end grain, which absorbs more stain, making it darker.

Apply undiluted Jo Sonja's Wood Stain to unsealed 'raw' timber in the direction of the grain. Apply evenly, avoiding any runs at the edges by wiping with a soft cloth. Allow the stain to dry before applying further coats to deepen the colour.

Jo Sonja's Wood Stains will not appear the same on all types of timber. This is due to differing grains and absorption of the stain. A test in an inconspicuous area is suggested to achieve desired results.

To paint a design over a stained timber background:
We recommend applying a coat of Jo Sonja's Clear Glaze Medium over the dried stain to lightly 'seal' the surface. This makes painting designs easier as the surface is less absorbent and allows mistakes to be wiped off without disturbing the stain.

Glazing with Jo Sonja's Wood Stain Glazes:
Many artists achieve greater depth and interest to their paintings by using glazing colours to highlight various elements of their work. The glazing colours in the Jo Sonja range may be found by referring to the Jo Sonja Colour Chart. Each Colour carries an opacity rating, the less opaque the colour, the richer the glaze.

Jo Sonja's Wood Stain Glazes are made from transparent pigments and therefore are excellent for glaze work in
paintings and Faux Finishes. Their liquid base is also very easy to brush out and blend without harsh 'dry' edges.

The painting should be completed with Jo Sonja's Artists' Colours and allowed to dry. Areas may then be selected and 'glazed'. Allow each area to dry before attempting to apply more glaze. The finished result will be a richer painting with more luminous qualities.

Jo Sonja's Wood Stains may be intermixed to achieve different shades. They may also be tinted with Jo Sonja's
Artists' Colours, however this will reduce their transparency. We recommend the Jo Sonja's Colour Chart be referred to when selecting tinting colours, as some Jo Sonja Colours are more transparent and will achieve a clearer result than others.
